Join my journey

Whenever I go to church, I look around and wonder where are all of the young adults? It seems that  most churches focus on getting the kids in church and providing programs and services for the older members but what about the young adults, those in the 22-40 age group?

In my opinion, this group needs help the most.  Many of US have one foot in the club and the other in the church.  We are faced with so many important life decisions.  This is a critical time in our lives to make decisions that will forever affect us.  We are thinking about getting married, starting families, buying homes and putting all of our faith in God.

However, it seems that many churches make you believe that it is impossible to be Christian and cool.  They almost make it seem like you have to choose.  I refuse to believe that God wants us to be unhappy.  Becoming a Christian should be one of the best experiences in your life.  No, it doesn’t mean that you won’t have any more problems but it does mean that you believe in a higher power that will forever protect you and provide you with the grace and mercy to persevere through anything.

This blog category, Christian and Cool, will highlight some of my struggles as a young, single mother trying to find my way.  Feel free to leave me comments when you think I am right on it and comment when you think I may be going astray.  Motivational Speaker Keith Brown says, “If you’re the smartest in your clique, you need a new clique.”  I want to share my Christian journey so that we can learn from each other.

Remember: it’s ok to be Christian and cool…

  1. I would love to follow this! I have actually experienced the opposite and have visited many churches with a strong 22-40 crowd with few elderly. Equally frustrating! It also has seemed to me that despite that crowd, there are very few sermons for the family, and I find that very, very sad. (((((HUGS))))) sandi

    • Thanks, Sandi!

I agree that all generations need to be represented in the church because we can all learn from each other. In the past, it was the older generations that passed along wisdom and customs to the younger generations while the younger generations helped to keep them young at heart by encouraging activity. These days as individual ministries have become more popular there is more separation and less interaction among the generations.

Also, you are right, there should be more focus on the famiy and building strong family units inside and outside of the church considering the state of many families in our country. The promotion of family values is key.

I am looking forward to sharing this journey with you. I am sure we can learn a lot from each other.
