Meet Faydra…

Faydra Deon was using the Internet before most of her family and friends even knew about the world wide web (yes, the Internet and the Web are two different things). She has been a webmaster and web designer/developer for over 20 years; six of which were as a soldier in the U.S. Army. For the past four years, Faydra has been a computer applications trainer in the Washington, DC area, training others to use (X)HTML, CSS, XML, Javascript, AJAX, PHP/MySQL and Adobe applications, like Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Photoshop, to design/develop websites for personal, business and government use. Faydra uses social media on a daily basis and also teaches social media classes, which include “Social Media Overview,” “Marketing with Social Media,” and “WordPress for Blogs.”

Do good guys really finish last? 5 reasons women like bad boys

I have heard so many guys say that they think good guys or nice guys finish last.  In some instances, I have even seen this happen.  You know the guy that does all he can to make a woman happy but she leaves him for someone who could care less about her emotional, financial or sexual well-being. Is this SOP (standard operating practice) in dating or a perception?

If women are attracted to “bad boys”, why?  What makes her choose instability over the nice, safe guy that wants to treat her right?

I know you have your theories on both sides of the issues, so join me on Blog Talk Radio, tonight (March 8, 2011 at 10pm) for a lively discussion.

Here’s how you can participate – share your comments and questions via

This business rocks! S.H.E. Agency

I’ve written about what a great person I think Traci Smith is on a couple of previous occasions but today I want to share with you five (5) reasons I think her company, S.H.E. Agency rocks.

5.   SHE keeps me updated on the professional events in Montgomery.  Even though I don’t live in the city and rarely get out for socializing, Traci consistently provides information about events I find professional and interesting.

4.  SHE is a trendsetter.  I have had so many people, who don’t live in our area, ask what a Tweet and Greet is.  So far, Traci has hosted two events with a third planned for April.  At each event, I have the opportunity to network with people I tweet on an almost daily basis.  I was surprised at how few local tweople were in my network prior to attending the first Tweet and Greet.  Many of the people who I have met at the two events have become very good friends.

3.  SHE has a heart.  Traci uses her company to reach out and help others.  SHE has created two signature events that have the potential to change the lives of many young people.  ”All Dolled Up” and “All Tied Up” were created for girls and boys, respectively, between the ages of 13 and 18.  The half day workshops teach life skills that are essential to the success of these future professionals as well as showing them how to tie scarves and ties.

2.  SHE is a sponsor of the I Want It All! Conference.  This is a shameless plug because anyone who has ever planned a major event knows that it takes a village to execute a one day event.  I am in the midst of planning four days of seminars, breakfasts, lunches, a brunch, networking event and a fashion show.  Having Traci and S.H.E. Agency on my team gives me comfort because she not the type of person to let you down, especially if her name is associated with the project.

1.  SHE understands quality over quantity.  I love the fact that SHE stays focused on what SHE does well and doesn’t try to be all over the road in an attempt to please everyone.  SHE has found her niche and I am excited to see what comes next.

Style. Hot. Energy.

This business rocks… The L.o.v.e. Movement

Sometimes I have to pinch myself to be sure my life isn’t a dream.  Sure, I have problems, challenges, detours and obstacles just like everyone else but for the most part, I consider myself blessed and highly favored.

One of my blessings to have so many amazing women in my network.  I love boys just as much as any other girl but there is something special about the bond that women share.  It is even more special when we can come together to support, encourage and inspire one another.   I have the pleasure of being a member of several female online communities whose missions are focused on making sure those principles are a part of the daily lives of women around the world.

Join Shivawn for "Conversations on the Sofa"

Today is a special day for one of my friends, Shivawn Mitchell.  She is launching The L.o.v.e. Movement’s online network. I had the pleasure of hearing about her vision in May and since then I have watched her work hard to make her vision a reality.  This means even more because of her mission… she encourages women to not only have vision but to live it.  It is hard to describe what it’s like to see someone’s ideas go from words to something that you can see and participate in… to see them creating a product and continuing to tweak it until it is exactly what they had in mind.  Not many people have the stick-to-it-ness to make their dreams a reality because at the first sign of trouble, they give up or give in.  Shivawn is nothing like that and has done a wonderful job of translating her ideas into something that will be beneficial to everyone around her.

Some people may question the need for another women’s community but I don’t believe that we will ever have too many places for women to come together and celebrate on another.  Take a moment to check out the L.o.v.e. Movement… by the way LOVE means living out visions eternally…. and follow them on Twitter – @L_ovemove …. become a fan on Facebook and listen to their weekly Blog Talk Radio show, Maximized Lifestyle.

Do you have Klout?

I have a Klout of 43.  How do I know?  It’s in my HootSuite profile.  But the bigger question is “What is klout?” And probably even more important… “Why do we care?”

Klout is supposed to measure your standard of influence on Twitter.  I find that interesting because there are some people who have thousands of followers but no influence.  Influence is when you have interaction with your followers, they retweet your posts and/or converse with you.  Don’t look at it like they are your servants or you have a group of people willing to buy whatever you’re selling but more like a captive audience for your message.  Simply posting tweets and not interacting is like standing on a mountain screaming at folks and not hearing anything they are saying.

If you are on Twitter, go to http://klout.com to find your score and let’s see how we measure up.

Here are some things that I learned about myself based on my Klout score:

  • Of my 1,960 followers, only 1,314 are mutual followers while 0% mention me in tweets (where is the love?) and only 4% retweet my posts (which implies I have a small, tightly formed community).  Although that sounds a little odd, it feels about right because I feel like I have a true connection with a small percentage of my followers and often wonder who the hay the rest of these people watching me are.
  • I’m a Specialist – I’m not a celebrity (darn it) but within my area of expertise my opinion is second to none (really?).  My content is likely focused around a specific topic or industry with a focused, highly engaged audience (yall, like it when we talk about relationships and parenting, lol)
  • According to my amplification, I am likely to have one tweet retweeted each day and I create content that is likely to create conversation and response (that’s pretty cool, that is the goal of this whole social networking thing, right?)
  • Based on my engagement, I am sad to report that I am not #teamfollowback, I actually read profiles and rely on interactions to determine who to follow (sorry bots) but they said I need some “@ mention love” <~ wow, their words, not mine… even my Twitter love life is suffering
  • The topics that “they” say I get the most engagement on are…
    • Business
    • Writing
    • Speakers
    • Authors
    • COACHES
    • Blogging
I disagree but… what do I know about these formulas and theories and stuff *shrugs*
  • My content analysis is a little weird because I don’t think I tweet about this stuff but “they” say…
    • #thingsleaderssay << haven’t done that one in a long time
    • -GB shaw << no idea what that’s all about *bbm confused face*
    • Tennessee Titans << Yeah, baby!! But I don’t think I tweet about them that often
    • Blackberry << if you say so…
    • #Twitterturnoff << I did that ONCE
    • Compact Disc << never!!
    • ok.. so their content analysis could use some work also

Honestly, I don’t know what any of this means or if it’s important but I’m definitely going to give it some thought.  My e-book, “Building a Brand without Spending a Bundle” will be released on Monday, November 15 for free to everyone that subscribes to my blog (SUBSCRIBE TODAY – top left corner of the page).  If this information were a little more accurate, it seems that it could be a useful tool in determining the effectiveness of your social networking efforts.  I have it linked to my Facebook and LinkedIn profiles so I am going to monitor it for a few months to see if the data becomes more accurate over time.

One of the challenges with social networking is determining whether you are making a difference, if you message is resonating with your audience and if you are engaging in activities that will build your brand.  In theory, I can see how this application can be relevant in making some decisions about your social network.  However, at this stage, it is more entertaining than informative.

Leave a comment and let me know if you found out anything interesting about yourself based on your Klout score.
